SALT LAKE CITY — Joe Alaniz, 71, passed away Dec. 6, 2012. Alaniz was born in Edinburg, Texas, on Dec. 9, 1940. His mother died when he was 12 years old and he began migrating throughout the country working in the fields with his Aunt. He enlisted in the United States Army and was a member of the National Guard. Alaniz worked with the Utah Migrant Council and the American GI Forum. He was also a promoter of dances, a DJ, owned several radio stations, a few bars and restaurants. He married Maria Solis. Alaniz is survived by his three children: Adela, Alexiz and Joe Jr.; several grandchildren and various family members. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
