HUNTSVILLE — Joseph (Joe) Duran, 77, died Feb. 21, 2011.

Duran was born July 13, 1933, in Holman, N.M., to Fidel T. and Ermalina Mondragon Duran. His passion for life and love of his family sustained him through eight years of pain and suffering. He lived in Nevada and New Mexico until moving to Bingham at the age of 12. During his youth, he was a Golden Gloves boxer. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Korean War. He was proud to be a veteran.

In 1956 he married Leeann DeBouzek and together they had eight children. He supported his family while working at Kennecott for 34 years, where he was an electrical lineman. He was a tireless leader and a strong advocate for children. In Midvale he was a Cub Scout master, coach and in 1972 started the Midvale recreation basketball program.

He is survived by his wife, Leeann; children, Andrew, Richard, Christopher, Angela, Jody, Anthony, Robert and Mario; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Manuel and Max; and sister, Rose.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Florence Catholic Church in Huntsville. Interment was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
