HELPER — Joseph "Joe" Rolando, 85, passed away May 17, 2013 from cancer.

Rolando was born in Helper on March 3, 1928, to James Perino and Maria Quilico Rolando. On Sept. 6, 1952, he married Alberta Rose Jerant at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, returning to take over the family’s interest in Mutual Furniture & Hardware Co. He served as a Helper City councilman for 23 years and in numerous church and civic leadership positions in Carbon County, including president of the Helper Kiwanis Club and chairman of the annual fundraising carnivals for the Catholic parishes of St. Anthony in Helper and Notre Dame de Lourdes in Price. He held the level of Third Degree with the Knights of Columbus.

Rolando is survived by his wife; four children: Joe F. (Jan) Rolando, JoAnn M. Rolando, R. Jean Rolando, and Marianne (Troy) Kale; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Mandie J. Lyman.

Rolando was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Teresa Milovich and Mary Ruggeri.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Anthony Catholic Church.
