SALT LAKE CITY — Kenneth F. Vierra, Sr., 74, died April 2013.

Vierra was born in Hayward, Calif. on May 8, 1938, to Minnie Gonsalves (Ornellas) and Frank Vierra.

Vierra coached at UC Santa Barbara for one season and was inducted into the UCSB Hall of Fame. He then joined the staff at the University of Utah from 1966-1971, mentored coaches as president of Judge-Ute Conference, and coached youth baseball teams (St. Ambrose). He married Elizabeth Burrowes in 1958 and then later married Judy Meng in 1984. He and his wife established "Vierra’s," a restaurant and sports bar at the Sports Mall in Murray.

Vierra is survived by sisters Susan Vierra-Cousins (Jim), Eugenia Vierra and Georgia Vierra; wife Judy; stepdaughter Alyson; mother-in-law Carolyn Duke; five children: Susan McGill (Dan), Doug Vierra (Stephanie Romero Vierra), Ken Vierra, Jr. (Andreanna Yanez-Vierra), Christina Vierra McGill (David), and Trish Fox (Jason); 20 grand-children and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church.
