SALT LAKE CITY — Kenneth Frederick Kastner, 54, died Aug. 22, at his home of cancer.

Kastner was born Oct. 6, 1951, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Loretta M. and Alvin C. Kastner. He graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School in 1969. He received an associates degree in printing and commercial art from Trade Tech. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1971, and was stationed at Balboa Hospital in San Diego, Calif. He met Kathryn A. Peterson in 1973, and they were married in 1975. Kastner started a painting business in 1974 and continued to paint homes right up to four days before his death. He had a special way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn; two sons, Shade (Kimi), and Haven (Holly); his father Alvin; five brothers, Richard (Peggy), Texas, Thomas (Debbie), Oklahoma, David (Marcella), Florida, Glenn (Lisa), Colorado, William (Lola); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
