Luigi Capitolo

SALT LAKE CITY — Luigi Nicola Filippo Capitolo, 81, died Nov. 14.

Capitolo was born March 10, 1925, to Livia and Francisco Capitolo. He grew up next door to his cousins, the Rinetti family. After graduating from Judge Memorial Catholic High School in 1943, he join the Army and served during World War II at Ford Douglas. He attended the University of Portland, and returned to Salt Lake City for the rest of his life living with his older sister Gioconda in the family home.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at the family’s cabin at Big Springs, Idaho. The Capitolo and Rinetti families owned the Salt Lake restaurant The Rotisserie Inn, but for Luigi, cooking was a pleasure not a business. He will be remembered as a gentle person who enjoyed simple pleasures and succeeded in ignoring most of life’s difficulties.

Capitolo is survived by Capitolo and Rinetti extended relatives across the country; cousins, Fathers Paul and Mario Capitolo, California, Andrea Zojourner, Phil Capitolo, Seattle, Sylvia Wightman, Iolanda Brennan and their families; nephews, David and Robert Capitolo and their families; and his friend, Cindy.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
