LAYTON — Paulist Father James DiLuzio will be making a visit to the Catholics in Layton.

"The reason that we are asking Fr. James DiLuzio to come here is for his evangelization," said Father Clarence J. Sandoval, pastor of Saint Rose of Lima Parish.

From Saturday, Feb. 4 through Wednesday, Feb. 8, Fr. DiLuzio will be presenting his Luke Alive Mission.

"A dramatic proclamation of the Gospel of Luke (Chapters 1 through 6 or 8) recited from memory to engage listeners in the oral tradition of the Early Church and the dynamic of sharing Scripture in a lively, thought-provoking way," is the way http://lukelive.com describes this ministry.

"Fr. James does a bunch of training in the Gospel of Luke," Fr. Sandoval said. "He does it in a way that people listen, and he sings most of it so it gives you a different perspective of the Gospel."

The event is free and open to the public and is meant to evangelize people in a fun, musical way.

Fr. DiLuzio is not a stranger in Utah. On three occasions he visited Saint Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church in Logan while Fr. Sandoval was pastor of that church.

"It was interesting to watch people listen, maybe for the first time, to the Gospel, God’s Word," Fr. Sandoval said. "I thought that the people of St. Rose may be able to do the same."

Although Fr. DiLuzio’s visit will occur just before the start of Lent, he wasn’t invited because of the penitential season.

"It’s a coincidence that it’s in the beginning of Lent, but the purpose is to evangelize the people, to give a sense of their relationship with God," Fr. Sandoval said, "and the best way of doing it is by introducing Fr. James. I think he will do a good job by bringing more people and just get people closer to God."

Kim Dzatko, a parishioner of St. Thomas de Aquinas, said Fr. DiLuzio is a dynamic and engaging missionary. "His smile and singing voice made this learning all the more delightful," she added.

Fr. DiLuzio has presented his Luke Live in many parishes around the United States. His ministry has three main purposes: to teach the tools and resources for discussing faith and scripture with others in a respectful, enjoyable fashion; to keep the Gospel in conversation within the American culture; and to connect Catholics’ sacramental spirituality with Scripture and everyday life.

The presentations are family-friendly, for children 10 years of age and older. Everyone is invited to attend the event at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 S. Chapel St. in Layton. From Saturday Feb. 4 through Wednesday, Feb. 8. For information, call 801- 544-4269.
