Madeleine Choir School brings harmony to Zions

Friday, Dec. 21, 2007

SALT LAKE CITY — Student ambassadors from the Madeleine Choir School brought harmony and a festive atmosphere to Zion’s Bank on South Temple and E Street Dec. 10.

The students sang Christmas carols in beautiful harmony and decorated the Zions Bank Christmas tree in the "Lights On" holiday celebration. Students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grades shared in a long-held community tradition by creating handmade ornaments for the Zions Bank Christmas tree and received a cash donation to their school in return. Zions Bank contributed 35 cents per ornament to the school.

Customers in the bank were a little put out when their banking needs could not immediately be met until the children began to sing. Then the customers were amazed at what they heard and they sat down to listen to the carols and got into the Christmas spirit.

"We love hosting the Madeleine Choir School students each year for this holiday tradition, said Linda Rino, Zions Bank manager. "For us, this is what community banking is all about. The Madeleine Choir School students have been decorating our tree for at least the past six years."

Rino said more than 60 Utah and Idaho elementary schools will participate in the "Lights On" holiday celebration this year. In addition, a number of Zions Bank offices have invited students from special-needs classes and Title I schools to decorate the trees in their lobbies. Zions Bank has been participating in this annual holiday event for the past 37 years.

The Madeleine Choir School students enjoyed making the ornaments and decorating the tree. They also enjoyed singing carols for banks customers and getting to eat some cookies as a reward.
