Mae O'Rourke Markham

SALT LAKE CITY — Mae O’Rourke Markham, 82, died at her home Jan. 11. She was a member of Saint Ann Parish.

Markham was born April 7, 1926, in Tooele to John and Edith Sheilds O’Rourke. She was raised in Eureka, where she attended Saint Joseph Catholic School, and graduated from Tintic High School. She married Robert Markham Feb. 15, 1947, in Salt Lake City. He preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1995. She was employed for 25 years as an administrative assistant for the South Salt Lake Police Department, where she held the rank of sergeant. She retired in 1987. She remained active during her retirement with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, friends, the 49er Club, as a delegate for the Democratic Party, and as an election judge. She was a member of Saint Ann Ladies Guild.

She is survived by two sons, John (Carol), Ogden, and Robert, Salt Lake City; two daughters, Janet Susan Taylor, Murray, and Patricia (Jim) Hatchett, Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Marie Jerman, Scottsdale, Ariz.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Ann Catholic Church. Committal was in Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
