SALT LAKE CITY — Mary Griffin, 98, passed away July 8, 2013. Griffin was born Feb. 25 1915 in Preston, Minn. to Frank and Mary Linn Kelly. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minn. and went on to the University of Minnesota for a degree in public health. She married Arthur E. Griffin April 13, 1941 and served as an Army nurse in World War II and continued her nursing career at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, the Catholic Woman’s League, the 49er’s Club and the St. Joseph’s Villa Volunteer Group. Griffin is survived by her children: Mary Allred, Arthur (Margo), Richard (Mary Kay), Robert (Sandra) and Jerry; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded death by her husband and two grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
