Maye N. Callahan Loewen

SALT LAKE CITY — Maye N. Callahan Loewen, 90, passed away July 10, 2013.

Loewen was born on Sept. 16, 1922 in Kaysville, to Jack and Annie Marie Barnes Nance. She was raised by her Uncle Dewey Barnes, Uncle Joe Joe and Elva Henderson. She was president of the Ladies of the Guard and of the PTA. She married and divorced Jack (J.J.) Callahan. She later married Glenn Loewen on Sept. 2, 1966.

Loewen loved her parish, The Cathedral of the Madeleine, was a Eucharistic minister and volunteered at the Good Samaritan Program. She was also once named Catholic Woman of the Year.

Loewen is survived by daughter Patty, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and ‘adopted’ daughter Shey Erickson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn and her son, Michael.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Madeleine Catholic Church.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
