SALT LAKE CITY — Michael R. O’Leary, 60, died Sept. 23, after a long struggle with cancer.

O’Leary was born May 14, 1946, in Salt Lake City to Rawlin and Afton Gatherum O’Leary. He attended Richfield High School, and then the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Utah, on a scholarship, studying architecture and film studies. He was a world traveler, champion of civil rights, a humanitarian, and an environmentalist, a loving and forgiving man, and a recent convert to the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his loving partner, Carol Sayles; brother, James O’Leary; and nephews, Kyle and Sean O’Leary.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Committal was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
