SALT LAKE CITY — Mike Simonich passed away on March 18, 2012.

Simonich was born in Tooele April 16, 1922. He entered Naval flight training in 1943 at the age of 21, and went into combat with his squadron VPB117, The Blue Raiders. He was awarded two Distinguished Flying Cross medals and six air medals for heroism in the Pacific Theater. He married Kathryn Theresa Long on Sept. 12, 1949.

Simonich was a lifelong member of Saint Marguerite Parish.

He is survived by his sons, Patrick (Sue), William (Cheryl), Mark (Sandy), Edward, Timothy and James (Lori); eight grandchildren; siblings Frances Anderson and Albert Simonich, and five great-grandchildren.
