by Father Gustavo Vidal Pastor of St. George Parish ST. GEORGE — Ministers from a variety of Christian churches were invited by Father Gustavo Vidal, pastor of St. George Parish, to participate in an Ecumenical Way of the Cross. On April 14, Good Friday, 12 Christian ministers and members of their congregations gathered at Bluff State Park and formed a procession which went through the streets of St. George and ended at the St. George Catholic Church. Photos depicting the Stations of the Cross were strategically placed along the one-mile route. At each station, one of the ministers led the group in prayer. Members from the various churches took turns carrying the wooden cross, and the faithful joined in singing "Were you there…?" as they walked between the different stations. According to the St. George Spectrum, between 200 and 300 people joined in this procession to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ. This tribute was a "first" in St. George, and everyone agreed that it will become an annual event.
