Northern Deanery CCW sponsoring women’s retreat

OGDEN — Seasons of Faith, A Women’s Retreat will be held at Give Me A Chance in Ogden on Sept. 28.

Sponsored by the Northern Deanery Council of Catholic Women, the retreat is intended to provide local Catholic women with a day filled with spiritual growth, bonding and personal reflection.

“The Northern Deanery has held women’s retreats throughout the past 10 years, intermittently, which were very well attended, most recent being ‘In the Midst, a women’s retreat’ in 2023 at St. James the Just, in Ogden,” Jessica Jurkowski, Northern Deanery past president, said. Those retreats, along with this new offering, have  aimed to provide a rejuvenating and enriching experience for participants.

“The goal is to make this an annual event, put together by a committee with representatives from each parish CCW in the Northern Deanery,” she added.

The retreat has been organized by a planning committee of participants from the Councils of Catholic Women at St. Mary and St. James parishes as well as members of  Holy Family and St. Rose of Lima parishes, with spiritual guidance from Deacon Thomas Devereux.’

The day’s activities will include presentations from Chris Deherrera, Deacon Devereux (Northern Deanery spiritual director), newly ordained Deacon Jesse Ricardez and musician Uriel Bravo, all focusing on the diverse experiences of faith and life.

Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy uplifting music, discussion sessions and a creative worship and prayer service to deepen each person’s spiritual journey. The retreat will include a light breakfast, lunch and retreat materials to take home.

Retreat organizers chose the gardens at Give Me A Chance to be the venue to highlight the good work the nonprofit organization is doing and because of its central location; it also is not affiliated with any particular parish, Jurkowski said.

The garden setting and time of year led to the theme of Seasons of Faith, which was also inspired by the verses of Ecclesiastes 3: “There is an appointed time for everything and a time for every affair under the heavens.”

“By hosting a retreat, we are encouraging growth as a community of women, strengthening our faith and relationships with one another and continually welcoming others,” Jurkowski said.

“Whether a member of the CCW or simply looking for a day of reflection and community, all are welcome to attend,” she said. “Bring a friend or come to make new connections as we explore the various seasons of our faith together.”
