Father Tai Nguyen

New Citizen! Father Tai Nguyen, parochial vicar at Saint George Parish, was sworn in as an American citizen on Feb. 23 at the 5th District Court in Salt Lake City. The Saint George Parish celebrated with a pot luck dinner on Feb. 26 in Kuzy Hall. Fr. Tai, originally from Vietnam, spent 17 years in the Philippines before coming to the United States in 2005. He was ordained a priest on May 29, 2010 by Bishop John C. Wester. He said he was very thankful for the privilege to express his faith and to share his talents, and he will do his best to serve his country.

Premier Christening! William Joseph Mees, will be welcomed into the Saint Paul Parish community as he receives the Sacrament of Baptism during Mass on March 6 at Saint Paul in Hurricane. This is the first baptism for the Saint Paul Catholic Center.

Farewell! Philip F. Notarianni, will retire in March as president of the Utah Historical Society. Phil and his wife, Maria, are members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Magna. A historian for 40 years, he also serves as director of the Division of State History, for which he received a thank-you letter from Gov. Gary Herbert. Notarianni is the author of the book "Faith, Hope and Prosperity: A History of the Tintic Mining District." The Tintic Historical Society was recognized by the American Association for State and Local History as the best local historical society in the nation.

Swish! The Knights of Columbus Council 9731, Our Lady of Lourdes, Magna, would like to congratulate Reymon Montoya for winning the District Free Throw Championship, boys age 12 division.

We are Men! St. Joseph the Worker provided a wonderful opportunity for the men of the parish on Feb. 18, the second annual men’s "Le Grand Soiree." The men gathered first for brandy and cigars, then joined for a catered dinner. It was great evening of toasts and back slapping. Father Reyes Rodriguez, Msgr. Matthew Wixted, Father James Semple, all retired and Father Patrick Carley, pastor of St. Joseph the Worker, were all in attendance.
