Holy Anniversaries! Monsignor Robert J. Bussen, pastor of Christ the King Parish in Cedar City, will celebrate the 41st anniversary of his ordination Dec. 17; Father Francisco Pires, pastor of Saint Thomas Aquanis Parish in Hyde Park, will celebrate the 28th anniversary of his ordination Dec. 8; Father Reynato T. Rodillas, administrator of Saint Olaf Parish in Bountiful, will celebrate the 15th anniversary of his ordination Dec. 12; and Father Umana German, parochial vicar of Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Park City, will celebrate the 16th anniversary of his ordination Dec. 7.

Top of Their Game! Emily Bruder, a senior at Juan Diego Catholic High School; Sarah Peterson, a senior at Judge Memorial CHS, Mia Lobato, a junior at Saint Joseph CHS; Cristiana Behnken, a sophomore at Saint Joseph CHS; Ali Kohler, a sophomore at Saint Joseph CHS; and Katie Panushka, a senior at Saint Joseph CHS, have been named first team to the 2012 All-State Soccer team. Mattie Muzatko, a senior at Juan Diego CHS; Caroline Pribble, a sophomore at Judge Memorial CHS; and Amanda Higgs, a sophomore at Saint Joseph CHS, have been named second team to the 2012 All-State Soccer team.

In Memoriam! Joseph Murray, the Catholic surgeon who conducted the world’s first organ transplant, died Nov. 26 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, the same hospital where he performed that groundbreaking surgery. Murray, who won a Nobel Prize and a Laetare Medal among his many honors, was 93 years old.

Appointed! Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, of Los Angeles a member of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and U.S. Benedictine Abbot Christopher M. Zielinski was named to help manage the staff of the Congregation for D ivine Worship and the Sacraments.

Requiescant in Pace

In keeping with Catholic tradition, we remember the anniversaries of death for deceased clergy who served the Diocese of Salt Lake City, especially those whose anniversaries are this month. They are: Monsignor Mark O. Benvegnu, Dec. 17, 1995; Father Timothy Brennan, Dec. 16, 1911; Father Patrick Cullen, Dec. 3, 1968; Father Thomas Henry, Dec. 12, 1895; Monsignor William H. McDougall, Dec. 8, 1988; Father William M. Mobley, Dec. 24, 1996; Monsignor Robert C. Pollock, Dec. 2, 2010 and Father Francis J. Sloan, Dec. 4, 1969.
