Debating in the South! The Juan Diego Catholic High School Debate team has earned its first bid to the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky in May. Caitlin Walrath and Dylan Frederick defeated more than 100 debate teams at the Damus Hollywood Invitational at Notre Dame High School to earn this bid.
Resigned and Assigned! Archbishop Henry J. Mansell of Hartford, Conn., has resigned and Bishop Leonard P. Blair of Toledo, Ohio, was named as his successor.
Smart Kicks! Allyson Dugan, a senior at Judge Memorial CHS, was named to the Utah High School Activities Association fall sports Academic All-State team in girls’ soccer.
Go Wildcats! Kailie Quinn, a senior at Judge Memorial CHS, signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Weber State University.
Sapphire Anniversary! Sam and Vi Vicchrilli, members of Saint Vincent de Paul Parish, where they were married, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Nov. 24.
High Kicking Success! Alexandra Dobesh, a senior at Juan Diego CHS, was recently selected for the All State Drill Team.
Appointed! Msgr. Michael Olson, a priest of the Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas and rector of Holy Trinity Seminary at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas, has been appointed as bishop of Fort Worth.
Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, of Oklahoma City has been appointed chairman of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Board of Directors. He succeeds Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas, of Tucson, Ariz., as CRS chairman. The USCCB also elected to the CRS board Bishop Cirilo Flores, D.D., J.D., of San Diego, Calif. Leaving the board on Dec. 31 after two consecutive terms are Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan of Santa Fe, N.M., and Bishop John C. Wester of Salt Lake City. Bishop Wester had served as chairman of the Overseas Operations Committee and a member of the Executive Committee.
Good Stewards! Four Judge Memorial Catholic High School students were selected as the recipients of the inaugural "Gifting Back … Skiing It Forward" High School Good Stewardship Scholarships, given by H2O Outdoor gear. Recipients were seniors Fiona Boomer and Charles Fuertsch, junior Nick Parent and sophomore Madeleine Porter.
