Mo Rockwell, Judge Memorial Catholic High School Class of 2009, was named the Western Athletic Conference Soccer Player of the Week.

For Science!

Will Ryan, an 8th-grade student at J.E. Cosgriff Memorial School, was a national semifinalist in the Broadcom Masters, a national science fair competition sponsored by the Society for Science and the Public. Ryan was among the 300 semifinalists named from over 6,000 nominees throughout the United States.

Emily Bruder, a senior at Juan Diego CHS, will represent the USA in the 2012 U-17 FIFA Soccer World Cup in Azerbaijan.

Italian Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, a renowned biblical scholar and former archbishop of Milan, died Aug. 31 at the age of 85 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Father Thomas F. Butler, Sept. 11, 1966; Father Thomas J. Meersman, Sept. 22, 1991; Father John F. Sanders, Sept. 22, 1961; Father Joseph H. Valine, Sept. 26, 1992; Deacon Aniceto Armendariz, Sept. 25, 2005; Deacon Raymond R. Ryan, Sept. 16, 1978; and Deacon Gerald Shea, Sept. 26, 2004.
