As the Holy Year of Mercy called by Pope Francis began, Father Joubran BouMerhi at St. Jude Maronite Catholic Church in Murray joined the Cathedral of the Madeleine and others throughout the world in opening a Holy Door on Dec. 13. Although located in Utah, St. Jude is a Maronite parish of the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon, which has declared the church a pilgrimage site for the Year of Mercy. “The Salt Lake diocese has always made us feel welcome,” said Subdeacon Claudio Covacci, adding that now, as a pilgrimage site, the Maronite church has been given “a small opportunity to reciprocate and welcome others from other parishes.”   IC photo/Laura Vallejo
