Pilgrims set off for Brazil for World Youth Day

A number of Utahns are traveling to Rio de Janeiro for World Youth Day, scheduled for July 23-28. Before they departed, a group from Saint George and Saint Francis Xavier parishes received a blessing from the Most Rev. John C. Wester, Bishop of Salt Lake City, on July 7 in the Cathedral of the Madeleine (photo one). The group from Saint Catherine of Siena Newman Center was blessed by Dominican Father Carl Schlichte, pastor, following the evening Mass on July 14 (photo two); they planned to leave the next day. The group from Tooele will be unable to go; the tour company with which they had contracted declared bankruptcy.
