Richard R. DeMarco

March 10, 1922 – July 8, 2017

Our dad, Richard R. DeMarco, age 95, passed away on July 8, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.  He will be missed beyond description.

He was born in Cumberland, Wyo., on March 10, 1922, and grew up in the surrounding mining towns.  He was our teacher, our mentor and our friend.  He was a World War II hero who helped capture the U-505, which hastened the end of the war and earned him a Presidential Unit Citation. He married Virginia C. Piz on Nov. 6, 1948. They were founding members of St. Ambrose Parish.

He was a good man who worked hard all his life. He was honest, caring and always willing to help. He loved his family, and he loved to hunt and fish.  He tried new things, invented tools and engineered solutions. He was the one to call when no one else could figure out how to fix something. We are grateful he is no longer in pain, but mostly we are grateful we had him in our lives. In his honor, please do at least one of the following today: help a stranger, go fishing, be patient, never do less than your best and tell your family you love them.

Dad is survived by his two children, Richard J. (LuAnn) and Carolyn Hulbert (Harry); grandkids Chelsie, Jonathan, Travis and Michael; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to Bristol Hospice, Michele, Joan, Savannah and Rainna, who loved dad like he was family. Special thanks to Michael, who made the last days of his life a little easier.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Aug. 12 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

Online condolences may be offered and a tribute video slideshow may be viewed at www.starksfuneral.com.
