SANDY — June 20 will mark the Rio Tinto Faith and Family night in which the Knights of Columbus organize a Soccer Challenge in a partnership with the Real Salt Lake professional soccer team.

The challenge is held in front of the stadium before the game starts.

"We participated last year and it was a lot of fun," said José Martinez, who has participated in the family night for years with his two sons.

The Escamillas, parishioners of St. Andrew are very excited about this event because two years ago one of the boys almost won a trophy at the challenge.

"I am getting better at shooting the balls in to the net, so I hope this year I’ll win a trophy," said Marco, who is also a Real Salt Lake Soccer fan.

The Soccer Challenge is open to all boys and girls ages 10-14 and is designed for players to demonstrate the most challenging of soccer skills: the penalty kick.

Each player is allowed 15 shots at the goal from the penalty line. The goal is divided into a series of five scoring zones. The upper corners of the goal are designated as 20 point zones. The lower corners are designated as 10 point zones and the central region is a five-point zone.

Awards are given to the top three winners in each division.

The soccer challenge, for boys and girls ages 10 to 14, will begin at 3 p.m. and run until game time.

The Real Salt Lake game against the L.A. Galaxy will begin at 7 p.m. For discounted tickets, visit www.realsaltlake.com/tickets and enter the promotional code ‘faith.’
