Robert Mayo

SALT LAKE CITY — Robert "Bob" Mayo, 69, passed away Jan. 8, 2014.

Mayo was born Nov. 9, 1944 in Salt Lake City, to Deacon Silvio and Mary Mayo. He attended Judge Memorial Catholic High School and he graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in sociology. He worked for JCPenney for 20 years, then for Huish Corporation and then spent 10 years as director at the St. Vincent de Paul Center, where he helped countless people in need of assistance and a new start. After retiring he became a crossing guard for the Sandy City Police Department and volunteered at the local senior center.

Mayo is survived by his wife, Kathy Mayo; parents Deacon Silvio and Mary Mayo; brother Monsignor Joseph Mayo; sister Joanne Mayo; sons David Mayo and Paul (Tina) Mayo; stepchildren Ryan (Jennifer) Barton and Rychelle Barton (Marian Borges); five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at The Cathedral of the Madeleine.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Catholic Community Services or the Humane Society of Utah.
