Siegfried (Sieg) A. Gornik

TOOELE — Siegfried (Sieg) A. Gornik, 71, died at his home Feb. 5, 2011. He was a member of Saint Marguerite Parish.

Gornik was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Neumannshoh, Schlesia, Germany to Valentine Gornik and Hedwig Mrohs Gornik. He grew up in and was schooled in Recklinghausen, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in April 1957 and became a U.S. citizen in November 1964. He married Brigitta Wolf on Feb. 27, 1960 in Salt Lake City. He served honorably for four years in the U.S. Air Force, from March 1959 to March 1963. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1972 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Phillips Petroleum from April 1974 to July 1999 and retired after 25 years from the company as a project engineer/project manager in the licensing division.

Gornik was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus; a member of the St. Marguerite Men’s Club, a church usher and a member of the Tooele Elks. He enjoyed playing soccer for Alemania S.C. in Salt Lake City, loved camping with the family, water skiing, snow skiing and world traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brigitta; children, Anita (Daniel) Klebba, Monica (Patrick) Marcinko; five grandchildren; and a brother, Hans Suerig.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Marguerites Catholic Church. Interment was in Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, in Sandy.
