Sister Maria Guadalupe Cornejo, SA (Maria Carmen) a Franciscan Sister of the Atonement, died on Jan. 9, 2012 at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Brewster, N.Y.  Sr. Maria Guadalupe was 95 years old. 

Maria Carmen Cornejo was born on Dec. 21, 1916 in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico to Antonio and Gabina (Medina) Cornejo. She joined the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement at Graymoor, Garrison, N.Y. in 1948. She professed her first vows in 1950 and her final vows in 1955. As an Atonement missionary, she served in catechetical and pastoral ministries in Utah; Jatai and Rio Verde, Brazil; Bakersfield, Delano and San Juan Bautista, Calif.; and at the Motherhouse Graymoor, Garrison, N.Y.   

She is survived by a half-sister, Theresa (Cornejo) Billingsly; and nieces and nephews, many of whom live in California. Her predeceased siblings are Alessandra Perez, Amalia Lopez-Nino, Jesus Cornejo, Antonio Cornejo Jr., Francisco Cornejo, Florentina Cornejo and David Cornejo. 

A wake service will be held at St. Francis Convent (Graymoor) in the Motherhouse Chapel, on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.  The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held in the Motherhouse Chapel on Friday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m.  Burial will be in the Sisters’ Cemetery, Graymoor. Funeral arrangements by Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home.
