Sister Paula Wellnitz, OLVM

Sister Paula Wellnitz, OLVM passed away March 28, 2020, at Saint Anne at Victory Noll, Huntington, Indiana.

Sr. Paula was born in Elgin, Illinois on December 1, 1928 to Paul Wellnitz and Catherine Brugger Wellnitz. She entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters on October 27, 1948 and made first vows on August 5, 1951. Over the years, Sr. Paula earned master’s degrees in religious education, and psychology/counseling. She served in the missions in the states of Utah, California, Colorado, Tennessee, Washington and South Dakota. 

She   arrived in the Huntington, Utah area in 1992 and worked for 4 Corners Mental Health for many years. She also worked in family enrichment, social work, pastoral work and with Catholic Charities.

At Mission San Rafael, Sr. Paula was a lector, an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion who also took communion to the homebound, trained altar servers  and taught classes in family life and faith.

After she retired Sr. Paula offered her home in Orangeville, Utah which she called  “Home Place,” as a place for retreat and reflection for individuals or groups.

Three brothers, Paul, Gregory and David Wellnitz, all precede her in death. Several nieces and nephews survive her, along with her Victory Noll Sisters, with whom she shared life and community for 71 years.

All services were private, with burial at Victory Noll Cemetery.
