As Friday Morning Mass was ending Oct. 2 at St. Olaf School, the sun broke through the clouds and the rain stopped just in time for the beginning of the Rosary Walk held by the 7th- and 8th-graders.
Because the month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, the students, with encouragement from their religion teacher, Kim Turner, decided to honor Our Blessed Mother by having a Rosary Walk throughout the campus.
To prepare for the walk, during the week they fashioned paper roses, which they gave to each student in the school. The students wrote their prayer intentions on the roses and placed them in a basket in front of a statue of Mary in the church.
After Mass, the Rosary Walk began in the church with a short introduction of the rosary. Then the students began to recite the Joyful Mysteries. A statue of Mary was placed on a decorated platform along with petitions from all the students; the platform then was carried from the church to the first Station of the Cross, followed by the middle-school students.
As they recited each decade of the rosary, the procession moved from one station to the next. The last portion of the rosary was recited by the statue of Saint Olaf, which is in front of the school. At the conclusion of the rosary, the students sang ”Immaculate Mary” as they processed into the school.
The event sponsored by the St. Olaf 7th- and 8th-graders was a new way for them to pray and honor Our Lady in gratitude for all the blessings she bestows.
