Lisa Bachiller, a parishioner at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Sandy, participates in the Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally in front of the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City. She said she was dressed to resemble Mary, the Virgin Mother, to symbolize that Christ would not have died for our sins and risen from the grave if His mother had not carried Him in her womb.

About 150 people, including numerous Catholics, participated in the Stand Up for Relgious Freedom rally at noon in front of the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City today, protesting the HHS mandate requiring religious institutions other than churches to offer contraceptives in their insurance plans. They joined groups in about 140 cities nationwide; nationally, the event was organized by Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League (Chicago, Ill.) and Monica Miller of the Citizens for a Pro-Life Society in Detroit, Mich. A complete story will appear in the March 30 Intermountain Catholic.
