BOUNTIFUL — Steven Carl Miller, 56, died Jan. 1, peacefully in his sleep.

Miller was born Jan. 15, 1952, in Sacramento, Calif. He was the ultimate host. He graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento, Calif., in 1969, and from the prestigious California Culinary Academy in San Francisco in 1999. Family connections were important to him. He was the father of three beautiful daughters, whom he fiercely loved. He was so proud of his girls and was blessed to have spent the last days of his life with them and his father. As an adult, Miller lived in California and Utah. He and his brothers lived only miles from one another and they visited frequently. He married Mary Laseski Hancock Aug. 11, 2007. Their marriage was short, but full of laughter and joy. They were best friends. He taught us about generosity and sharing. He gave with his whole heart without a complaint.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Erica (Chris) Kiene, Capri Miller, and Phallon Miller, all of Sacramento; brothers, Jack Wayne (Marcia) Miller, Centerville, Calvin (Linda Burke) Miller, Centerville, and Larry (Lynn) Frith, Carmichael, Calif.; father, J.D. Frith, Sacramento; and grandsons, Jackson and Preston Kiene, Sacramento.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Olaf Catholic Church. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
