SALT LAKE CITY — Suzanne C Velarde, 67, passed away of a heart attack March 1, 2013. Velarde was born on Aug. 5, 1945 in Baltimore, Md. to Suzanne and Norman Chelf. She left Maryland in 1966 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where she met her future husband, David. They finished their service and married. When her daughters attended St. Vincent de Paul School, she ran the gym for the girls’ volleyball and basketball teams. She was a member of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish. She enjoyed helping the ladies serve at the luncheons on Saturdays. Velarde was preceded in death by her daughter, Suzy Velarde; mother Suzanne Mosse; brother Norman Chelf and stepfather Joe Mosse. Velarde is survived by David Velarde; daughter Diane (Randy) Everett; two granddaughters; sister Kathy Brown; father Norman (Gail) Chelf; half-brothers Herbert (Alesia) Mosse and George (Donna) Chelf; half-sister Althea (Robert) Gardiner and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.
