The Festival of Roses held in Draper

Friday, May. 11, 2007

DRAPER — The St. John the Baptist Parish community will hold the Festival of Roses May 18 through May 20, at the Skaggs Catholic Center, 300 East 11800 South, Draper.

St. John the Baptist Parish will host the pre-festival activities beginning with the annual golf tournament May 11, and Mardi Gras Night May 12. The festival will kick off May 18, at 6 p.m. with a festival family feast, which will include a spaghetti dinner, live entertainment, carnival rides, games for the children and more.

The Festival of Roses will open May 19, with a 5K Run and Fun Walk. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. to officially launch the 2007 Community Festival of Roses.

The festivities will continue throughout the weekend with a western barbeque, silent auction, princess club, live entertainment, carnival rides, car show, great food, connoisseur club and games and activities for children. There will be something for every member of the family at this year’s festival, and admission is free. You provide the family, and we will provide the fun.

The festival is once again featuring "Cow-A-Bunga," an ingenious game of chance involving Bessie the festival cow. Cow-A-Bunga is a farm animal version of bingo, which takes place in a man-made pasture with pre-marked squares. Festival participants can purchase a ticket representing a square and "Bessie" determines a winner by doing her business on the square of her choice.

Bessie will make her appearance May 20, promptly at 2 p.m. Come over and have a good laugh with us and share in the fun.

The Festival of Roses is an annual fund raising event in which all proceeds go directly to St. John the Baptist Parish. The festival was established in 2000 to assist in fund raising efforts for the parish, which was completed in 2003.
