June 13, 1943 ~ September 23, 2022

Walter Stuart Woods, 79, of Taylorsville, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2022 (four months after his wife, Irene’s passing).

Walter was born on June 13, 1943, to Walter and Mildred Woods in Great Falls, Montana. He grew up in Helena and graduated from Helena High School. From a young age, he started working various jobs until he landed a job managing the iconic Marlow Theatre in Helena. From there he transferred to Las Vegas, New Mexico where he met his wife, Irene. Walter and Irene were married for 51 years and had three boys: Walter James, Robert and Charles.

Walt and the family moved to Amarillo, Texas, then Albuquerque, New Mexico, and eventually settled back in Helena for about 10 years where Walter ran a furniture store on Last Chance Gulch named Walt’s New and Used Furniture. While in Helena, Walter was deeply involved in the community, so much so that his sons had a hard time getting away with anything without their dad knowing (because everyone knew Walter).

In 1990 Walter moved his family to the Salt Lake Valley in Utah for better job prospects. He remained involved in the community, especially with the Knights of Columbus and volunteering with his church. Walter loved music and performance, and throughout his life was a member of numerous different choirs and performing groups. He got joy out of bringing joy to others. Anyone that knew Walter knew that he loved to bring a smile to your face.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents, Walter and Mildred; two siblings, Connie and Frank; and two grandchildren, Dorothy and Charles Jr.

Walter is survived by his three sons Walter James (Jill), Robert (Dawn) and Charles (Nicole); 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Katelyn, Isabella, Philip, Gabriel, Joshua, Bram, Matthias, Jett and Conner; and one brother, Tim.

Services were held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Taylorsville on September 30. A graveside service immediately followed at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
