Responding to a request to consult more lay leaders on matters regarding the Diocese of Salt Lake City, Father Martin Diaz is inviting lay pastoral leaders within the Wasatch Deanery to meet to discuss items that will be on the Diocesan Pastoral Council agenda.

The DPC is a group of priests and lay leaders who offer advice to the Most Rev. John C. Wester, bishop of Salt Lake City. Past agenda items have included immigration, vocations and missions.

As dean of the Wasatch Deanery, Fr. Diaz sees the deanery meeting as a way "to gather the wisdom of those in the deanery and forward that to the bishop through the representatives to the DPC," he said.

Parishes in the Wasatch Deanery are Blessed Sacrament, Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Saint Andrew, Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Francis Xavier, Saint John the Baptists, Saint Joseph the Worker, Saint Martin de Porres, Saint Patrick, Saint Peter, Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, Saint Vincent de Paul and San Andres.

The deanery gathering is Jan. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, 7832 Allen St. in Midvale. To RSVP, email martindiaz@earthlink.net or phone 801-255-3721.
