SAINT GEORGE — The Saint George Parish youth group attended the 2012 Steubenville Catholic Youth Conference in San Diego at the end of July, led by Father Tai Nguyen, the parish’s parochial vicar.

The theme this year was ‘The Eighth Day,’ and the youth had the opportunity to journey into the reality of Christ’s redemption and the meaning of it in their lives as they were reminded of Isaiah 43:1: "Fear not!"

Conferences of this type mean "our youth can see vividly what is happening in our Catholic Church," Fr. Nguyen said. "I wanted them to witness their same faith through other youth’s eyes."

About 40,000 youth from all over the country attended the conference, 55 from Saint George Parish.

"Our youth should never feel isolated," Fr. Nguyen said. "Going [to the conference] helped them to realize how many other young people practice and love the Catholic faith. Listening to the speakers, hearing musicians, talking to other youth, make our youth stronger. Right now there is a need for young people to be involved more in the Catholic Church and with the faith and the theology. It’s very important that they have hope for their future."
