DRAPER — With the total of paid pledges for the 2007 Diocesan Development Drive (DDD) at $1.93 million Drive director Shannon Lee announced Oct. 16, the drive is just $18,000 short of its $2 million goal. At a dinner at St. John the Baptist Elementary School Lee told pastors, parish drive directors, and diocesan personnel pledges totaled $2, 127, 531 for the drive, the theme of which was "Light the Way."

Parish serves spaghetti to Magna and points beyond

MAGNA — Mountains of meatballs and swirls of spaghetti were the fare for the annual spaghetti dinner Oct. 14, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Magna. Pastor father Andrzej Skrzypiec isn’t exactly certain how many years the fund raising event has been going on, but he estimates the 2007 dinner "is probably about the 76th. There may have been a few years the parish didn’t hold one," he told the Intermountain Catholic. "We make about $12,000 a year, but what is more important is the tradition."

SOUTH OGDEN — A more beautiful afternoon could not have been chosen for the long-awaited ground breaking for the new Holy Family Catholic Church in South Ogden. Parishioners and parish and diocesan leaders stood and sat inside a life-size floor plan of the church laid out on the grass of the parish plant in bright orange ribbon. Fourteen gold shovels adorned with red ribbons were provided by R & O Construction, contractors for the project. The shovels were used again and again as Pastor Father Patrick Elliott called from the crowd parishioners who had worked on the parish’s highly successful capital campaign, hospitality projects, and those who are leading steering and finance committees and the parish council.
