SALT LAKE CITY — In a rare Monday ecclesial announcement, Pope Benedict XVI named Bishop Joseph Charles Wester, 56, the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City Jan. 8. Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States, announced Bishop-designate Wester's appointment in Washington.
