SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Foster Care Foundation, in a forum Jan. 15 at Juan Diego Catholic High School, reported that at any given time, there are about 2,600 children in foster care in the state. Nearly half of these children are from the Salt Lake Valley area, and growing numbers of these children are of Hispanic/Latino descent.

>>>OGDEN — For Norman Allred, returning to his old stomping grounds of St. Joseph High School was anything but a step backward. He’d taught, served as dean of students and vice principal at the northern-most high school in the Diocese of Salt Lake City’s school system for 15 years before spending four years at St. Francis Xavier Regional Elementary School in Kearns. The call that brought him back to St. Joseph’s made him principal, and Allred said he couldn’t be happier.
>>>MURRAY — Andrea Bruno said his main goal in applying for the foreign exchange program was to come to the United States to learn English. Bruno is from Torino, Italy. He applied through an all volunteer program, and his English is very good.
>>>CENTERVILLE — "Joe Pond has always had an unbelievable passion for baseball, and I do not think he ever lets a day go by that he is not trying to become a better athlete," said Jeff Myaer, Judge Memorial Catholic High School head baseball coach. "Joe is probably the best pitcher in the state of Utah and also one of my best offensive players."
>>>SALT LAKE CITY — All the classes at Kearns St. Ann School reached their fund raising goals for the October Monster Bash ’07. The students raised $34,200.45. Tom and Mary McCarthey matched the students earnings bringing the grand total to $68,400.90. The students were awarded trophies and prizes at an assembly Nov. 28.
