Dreams and successes shared at breakfast

Catholic Community Services' annual Dream Builders Breakfast brought about 200 people to hear success stories from two CCS clients who once were addicts but now are clean, sober and building better lives for themselves. A full story about the breakfast will appear in the May 6 issue of the Intermountain Catholic.

On April 19 I met with President Barack Obama, at his request, in the East Room of the White House. Also in the meeting were members of the president’s Cabinet and other invited guests, including Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York City; John Engler, president/CEO of the Business Roundtable; Eric Garcetti, president of the Los Angeles City Council; Charles Ramsey, president of the Major City Chiefs of Police Association; Al Sharpton, president of the National Action Network; and Richard Trumka, leader of the AFL-CIO. Cabinet members included U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

Saint Vincent 1st-graders enjoy 'Invention Convention' Week

SALT LAKE CITY — Invention is a creative process. An open and curious mind enables one to see beyond what is known. Seeing a new possibility, a new connection or relationship can spark an invention. The minds of Saint Vincent de Paul School first-graders were sparked to invent something last month. They were asked to interview family members about inventions, come up with something they wanted to invent, design it and then share it with their classmates at the Invention Convention, which was held April 8 at the school.
