SALT LAKE CITY — El 15 de febrero de 1997, el padre Kenneth Vialpando, en aquel entonces pastor de la parroquia San Pío X en Moab y ahora pastor de la parroquia de San José en Ogden, fue sorprendido con un regalo de San Valentín al salir hacia su carro por algo que necesitaba. Notó que en los escalones de la rectoría había un bulto envuelto con una toalla de motel y, al lado, una bolsa de plástico. Sin darle mucha importancia, pensó en recogerlo a la mañana siguiente pues la gente ocasionalmente dejaba ropa y comida en las escaleras. Pero la curiosidad lo venció a pesar que ya era noche y hacía frío. Primero abrió la bolsa de plástico y descubrió que tenía un biberón y leche para bebé. Sus sospechas fueron confirmadas al desenvolver la toalla del motel y encontrar a un niño de un día de nacido desnudo y con el cordón umbilical cortado y hecho nudo.

SALT LAKE CITY — On February 15, 1997, Father Kenneth Vialpando, then pastor of Saint Pius X Parish in Moab and now pastor of Saint Joseph Parish in Ogden, was surprised with a Valentine’s Day present as he went outside to his car for something he needed. He noticed a bundle wrapped with a motel towel and a plastic bag on the rectory steps. People usually left clothes and food there, so he thought about taking it in with him the next morning. But his curiosity was stronger than the coldness of that night. He first opened the plastic bag and there were a baby bottle and some formula. He confirmed his suspicions when he unwrapped the motel towel and found a naked day-old baby boy with a cut and knotted umbilical cord.

SALT LAKE CITY — When the University of Utah’s newspaper, the Chronicle spoofed Pope Benedict XVI’s trip to the United States and inferred that the pope is a wizard, it prompted a letter to the newspaper from Dominican Father Peter Rogers. He was writing not only as pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Newman Club Parish, he was writing as director of the school’s Interfaith Campus Advisors Council. Student members of the Council signed the letter, as did four ministers and pastors representing the Council.
