SALT LAKE CITY — The first photo you see on the title pages of "Historic Photos of Salt Lake City" by Jeff Burbank, is a circa 1950 photo taken from the apex of the City and County Building at 451 South State Street. It has many familiar buildings that are still standing today and a number of older buildings that are gone now. The photo is symbolic of what the book is about. It’s a collection of photos that capture a certain place at a certain time. And even though the book has photos taken between 1887 and 1963, as a reader I still kept scanning the photos – looking for someone I knew. I didn’t find any faces familiar to me, but there are those who will.
