SALT LAKE CITY — With the score 0-0 and just under five minutes left in the final soccer game, Judge Memorial junior Maddie Cartwright saw an opportunity. As soccer players were battling for possession of the ball, the ball rolled out and Cartwright kicked it scoring a goal. The goal gave the Judge Memorial Bulldogs a 1-0 win over Juan Diego Catholic High School and the 3A Soccer State Championship Title Oct. 20 at Woods Cross High School.

Parish promises to help poor before themselves

MIDVALE — A little rain and cold weather didn’t deter men, women, and children from throwing their time and energy into helping renovate the St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish food bank. The only parish-based neighborhood food bank in the Salt Lake Valley, St. Therese Parish volunteers were joined by members of the Knights of Columbus (K of C), and Rotary Club members from Taylorsville and Midvale. The goal was to renovate the food bank over several weekends while closing the facility down completely as few days as possible.

He was writing about Senator Joseph McCarthy’s witch hunt for American communists and its resulting hysteria. Miller was a McCarthy victim.

SSgt Larry Rougle buried at Arlington National Cemetery

KEARNS — The sidewalk leading to St. Francis Xavier Church in Kearns was lined with American flags for the funeral of Army Staff Sgt. Larry Ismael Rougle, 25. The divorced father of a three-year-old daughter, Rougle was killed Oct. 23, while on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan. He died in the Sawtalo Sar Mountain area of the Kunar Province, in a fire fight in which two other members of his unit, the 173rd Airborne, were killed.
