SALT LAKE CITY —George Angelo, Judge Memorial Catholic High School vice principal, was honored at the American Red Cross Annual Heroes Luncheon at the Salt Palace March 18. With over 350 attendees, including a contingent of Judge Memorial students, Angelo was honored as the 2009 Educator Hero by the Greater Salt Lake Chapter of the American Red Cross.

James T. Svendsen receives 2009 Madeleine Award

SALT LAKE CITY — Madeleine Arts and Humanities Council chairman Mike Stransky has announced that James T. Svendsen will receive the 2009 Madeleine Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts and Humanities. This award is presented annually as part of the Madeleine Festival of the Arts and Humanities to individuals who have made comprehensive and long-term contributions to the arts and humanities in Utah. The Madeleine Award was first presented in 1980, and James T. Svendsen will be added to am impressive list of 21 past awardees who have contributed so much to our state’s vibrant arts and humanities programs.

SALT LAKE CITY — Father William Henry Flegge died early Saturday morning, April 4, 2009 at his residence. Family and friends were with him. He died peacefully in his sleep. He had been suffering from cancer for some time.

Bishop Wester undergoes surgery April 8

SALT LAKE CITY — On Wednesday, April 8, 2009, Bishop John C. Wester, Bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, will undergo surgery for the removal of his prostrate gland. During a routine physical examination it was determined that there was a slight elevation in his PSA level and subsequent tests indicated he had a small malignancy in one section of his prostrate gland. It was determined that the surgery would be beneficial for his long term health at this time.
